Artist Dick Kishel has led an interesting life; bits and pieces of which
he will be sharing with the community this month in the Minnetrista Cultural
Center's Indiana Room. Kishel works in a variety of mediums, including
paint, sculpture, wood and plastic. His work can be seen all over the
United States, and even in England and Beijing, China -- as well as in and
around Muncie. Examples of his work include a sculpture in the foyer
of Merchant's National Bank in Muncie, and a 22-foot giraffe commissioned
by the Indianapolis Zoo.
For 35 years, Kishel has been an artist and teacher, but gives most of the credit for his success to his wife of 51 years, Muriel. For 31 years, Kishel has taught art at Burris Laboratory School, and has taught all age levels.
"I think the exhibit will be an interesting one," Kishel says. "It includes some odds and ends from over the years."
KISHEL IN RETROSPECT will be on exhibit January 16-31. Minnetrista hours are Monday-Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm and Sunday 1 to 5 pm.
